Last month, 11-year-old Naomi Oakes and her family discovered she was suffering from Leukemia and that she needs to be hospitalized for six to nine months for intensive treatment. Like most 11-year-old girls, Naomi’s favorite singer is Taylor Swift.
In a video uploaded to YouTube, Oakes dances to “Bad Blood” as her “theme song.” The video then says that because of her hospitalizations, she’ll have to miss a Taylor Swift concert she had tickets to see in August. Luckily, information moves fast on the internet, and America’s Best Friend Taylor Swift has swooped in to help.
Oakes’ family set up a GoFundMe page to help with the cost of her treatment, and yesterday Taylor Swift (or someone with the username Taylor Swift and a TON of cash lying around) made a number of contributions that added up to $50,000 to help her with the costs.
“I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts,” Swift wrote. “Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
When Oakes found out, she did what any 11-year-old fan would do: FREAK OUT.
Taylor Swift has a long history of interacting with fans, from writing them comforting letters to showing up at their bridal showers to helping them pay off their student loans. How does she do it? We imagine she stays up until 4am searching her name on Tumblr. Or she has a lot of assistants. Either way, Taylor Swift saves lives.
