There’s a community for everyone on social news site Reddit: from fort enthusiasts to bug-fight voyeurs to fans of Scarlett Johansson.

There’s even one devoted specifically to creeping you out so much you can’t sleep — r/nosleep. They’re so serious about no sleep that debunking creepy stories or videos is explicitly forbidden.

Except for last night, when a redditor posted a video so creepy he was begging for it to be debunked.

Here’s the story as told by jeremya239:

“I live in a two-bedroom apartment with my wife and two-year-old son. We have no pets due to my son’s allergies. Earlier today my wife stopped me in the kitchen with a panicked look on her face. She handed me her phone, with a video already queued up.Every hair on my body stood up when I watched the video.”

And here’s the two-second video:

At first, redditors didn’t so much debunk the weird apparition—two points of light, like eyes, floating in the room— as creep out the poster even more:

“What appears to be glowing eyes/mouth could easily be the lights on a camcorder,” wrote one. “Meaning the dark figure was filming you.”

But one enterprising redditor, ivanbco, believed he had found the source of the floating eyes. Using two photographs of the same scene at daytime, he surmised that the thing was just a reflection of lights. He even posted a ietailed visual analysis.

But jeremya239 still wasn’t impressed.

“My son wasn’t that close to the closet when he took that, and it looks like the ‘eyes’ are higher than my door, thank you so much for this though.”

So what do you think? Was ivanbco’s solution correct? Was the thing a demonic ghostly cameraman or just some weird reflection?
