If you think Facebook is confusing at your ripe, young age, imagine what it looks like to a 101-year-old.
But judging by Florence Detlor’s page, she has pretty good handle on it. She’s the social network’s oldest official registered user, and she visited Facebook’s headquarters Monday.
Sheryl Sandberg, the site’s chief operating official, posted a photo of herself, Detlor, and the sultan himself, Mark Zuckerberg, smiling as they held a meet-and-greet with the eldest user.
“Honored to meet Florence Detlor, who at 101 years old is the oldest registered Facebook user,” wrote Sandberg on the picture’s description section. “Thank you for visiting us Florence!”
The picture garnered more than 7,000 likes, 1,000 shares, and dozens of comments about how adorable Detlor is. “I hope Ms. Detlor sees this photo so she can tag herself,” joked Tom Stocky.
Other commenters mentioned how they have older grandparents and might sign them up for Facebook. “My grandfather in law is turning 102. I need to get him to sign up!” wrote Mary Bruening Hekl.
We learned a few things about Detlor from her page: She lives in the same city as Facebook’s headquarters (Menlo Park, Calif.), she graduated from Occidental College in 1932, and she is always “looking for a good book to read.”
She’s also probably better, and less annoying, at using Facebook than you are. Her tagged pictures are blocked, she only has two likes, and has more than 1,400 friends.
Detlor also posts updates infrequently but did ask on July 28 if “garage sales a good way” to shop. On Tuesday night, she posted a status update thanking people for their comments and wished a “good night all.”
We just hope she didn’t invest any of her retirement funds in the company’s stock.
