Welcome to your first horoscope of 2021! It’s Capricorn season. Normally, this is a time when people love to set big, ambitious goals. Following a year like 2020, it’s likely that many of us won’t feel full of that “can-do” energy. But if there’s any sign that knows how to keep trudging forward when things look glum, it’s Capricorn. The goat knows that climbing mountains isn’t about sprinting forward or exerting all your strength in one epic push. It’s all about being nimble, keeping sturdy footing, and finding nooks and crevices where you can get a toe-hold and lift yourself up to the next leg of the journey. In short, the start of this year may be rocky, and it may be slow-going—but it’s going.
Please note: These horoscopes, like emoji, are meant to add fun and color to your month. Take what feels good to you, and leave what doesn’t.
Highlights:
In December, the Great Conjunction arrived when Jupiter and Saturn both entered Aquarius. Jupiter and Saturn are astrological heavyweights, and they’ll continue their journey together this month, bringing a mix of Jupiter’s optimism and Saturn’s seriousness when it comes to how we handle all matters affecting the collective. We can build a better world, but we have to believe it’s possible. If we can balance the unrivaled positivity of Jupiter with the slower-moving, sometimes frustrating aspects of Saturn’s responsible attitude, we’ll see massive shifts in our society. This doesn’t mean change will happen overnight. But rest assured the changes that do happen will be positive ones that support our collective growth.
Another important transit this month happens on Jan. 14 when Uranus, a mover and a shaker, stations direct in Taurus. This comes right after the new moon in Capricorn on Jan. 13. Uranus often brings sudden bursts of inspiration and insight. When Uranus squares Jupiter on the 17th, we’ll be challenged to see just how badly radical change could be needed in our communities and in our larger society. This energy might feel a little bumpy, but it could just be the push we need to move forward.
Capricorn 🗿😓🎒🕳️☀️
For the last three years, Saturn moving through your sign has made things feel exceptionally heavy and slow. You may have felt, at times, like you’ve had a big boulder strapped to your back. But Saturn moved into Aquarius last month, and this January, your pack feels a little lighter. If you’re feeling cautious or hesitant, that’s normal. But things are only going to get better from here. Stop looking over your shoulder at that black hole you thought you were going to slip into. Look forward. The sun wants to shine on you. Let it.
Aquarius ⚡🤯🐺🏃♀️🤔
This month, you may be struck with moments of incredible insight and inspiration. But when you look around, your peers might just not be “there” with you yet. This may frustrate you, but you might be the very person they need to lead them into the light. Be patient with those who can’t match your speed. With both Jupiter and Saturn in your sign, you’re in for an eventful year that will allow you to lead and be a force for good in the world. But first, you’ll need to know yourself. There are two sides to you: the side that thrives on community and is a champion for justice and the side that is so annoyed with society that you just want to run away to the mountains and live out the rest of your days as a lone wolf. Instead of abandoning all hope in moments of frustration, recognize this pattern of wanting to run away. Are there ways you can make this work for you instead of against you? What would scheduled off-the-grid time look like if you created it for yourself? And what new knowledge might you share with your community when you return?
Pisces 💭📈😩😍🎨
You’re a dreamer, Pisces, and the world has been throwing you some hard facts. Your heart is big and open, but your arms are tired. How can you hold all this hurt, all this suffering? Sometimes you think this world is just too much. But then you remember how much you love the way the sky looks after a rainstorm or that soft halo that forms around a very full moon. Instead of losing yourself in the pain of a world that needs so much repair, remember and honor its beauty. Write a poem. Open a fresh tube of paint. Reread your favorite book from childhood. This year, your unconscious urges you toward creativity will come out to play. Let moments of inspiration guide you.
Aries 🌪️😰💪😌🌟
This Capricorn season may test you, Aries. Sudden changes at the last minute may throw you. But no one and nothing will outshine you! You are someone who can absolutely rise to the occasion. You’ve got courage in spades, and you’ve got everything it takes to reach your goals. When the sun in Capricorn squares your ruler Mars in Taurus on Jan. 17, you may face conflicts that test your sense of self-worth. Remember this: No one can give you the validation you seek if you think of yourself as unworthy. You are worthy. Say it to yourself 100 a day if you need to. You are worthy.
Taurus 🐌➡️🏃♀️✨😄
Things are about to start moving forward for you. Mars will enter your sign on the Jan. 6, giving you a big burst of energy. Uranus, which has been stationed retrograde in your sign for many months, will station direct on the Jan 14. If you’ve felt like the past few months were a slog, get ready for all that to change. You’ll have renewed energy and insight. What you do with it is up to you. Hint: Don’t waste time beating yourself up for mistakes made in months past. Do get to work! And remember that work can be joyful and invigorating. You thrive when you know you’re giving projects you care about your all, so reconnect with the bliss of being in the groove.
Gemini 📋✅😄🚧⛵
You’ll feel remarkably productive this month as your ruler Mercury moves through the last degrees of taskmaster Capricorn. Use this time to put the finishing touches on big projects whether they are in your career or your home. You have what it takes right now to see things through. At the end of the month, things will slow down considerably as Mercury stations retrograde in Aquarius on Jan. 30. So prepare to reflect and regroup, but don’t let the knowledge that there are slower days ahead take the wind out of your sails. Enjoy your momentum while it lasts.
Cancer 👩❤️👩🌱💆👁️💖
This month there will be a new moon in your house of partnership on Jan. 13. Whether you’re partnered or single, it’s the perfect time to plant some new seeds. What do you want your partnerships to look like? Do you crave more affection? More stability? More communication? You have a tendency to hold onto the past, but right now, it’s time to open up to something new. Clear your mind and envision what your most ideal partnership would look like. If you have trouble in partnership because you struggle with feelings of unworthiness, the full moon in Leo on the Jan. 30 will help you to see your true value.
Leo 🎩😩💗💞😊
All dolled up with nowhere to go, Leo? The truth is that you have plenty to feel fabulous right now, but you’re probably feeling glum that there aren’t many opportunities to celebrate. Like many people, you may be feeling disconnected from friends or family due to the pandemic. Instead of waiting for people to notice how incredible you are, reach out and remind the people you love that they mean something to you. No one knows how to inject others with a shot of optimistic energy like you! So send some good vibes out into the world. They’ll come back to you tenfold.
Virgo 🔎✔️🖌️💪🤩
This month, you’ll be giving a lot of your energy to finishing up bigger projects. Make sure to make room for joy and pleasure, too! You have a tendency to get caught up in the finer details, but you’ll get the best results right now if you focus on seeing things through. Nit-picking is not what will make you sparkle, so trust that you’ve already done the fine-tuning. This moment is all about adding a final flourish. Instead of casting a critical eye, identify your strengths, and play them up for all to see. Once you do, you’re sure to shine!
Libra 🏠🤔🔨🎀💡
Your ruler, Venus, is moving into Capricorn on the Jan. 8. This will give you the ability to step back and see the big picture of what’s working and what isn’t in your home life. You may also find yourself reassessing whether the way you live now is aligned with your long-term goals. You may want to spruce things up a bit or rearrange things so that they feel more functional. The thing is, you’ve got an incredible eye and a knack for making things beautiful and harmonious. So don’t get discouraged if things don’t look quite like you’d like them to just yet. Trust that with a little effort solutions will appear.
Scorpio 🥺🕰️👀❤️😌
You are currently, for better or worse, in limbo. You haven’t quite arrived at where you’d like to be, but you’re getting to see all your options from every angle. Whether it’s your home, your work, or your love life, everything may seem like it’s up for review right now. Be patient with the parts of you that want answers. Be kind to the part of you that wants to throw a tantrum. The truth is, what you crave most right now is long-term security. While it might not seem obvious, you may already have the security you crave. And if you don’t, you definitely have the support you need to build it for yourself. If you’ve been feeling shackled to decisions that you think you must make to create security or if you feel like you’re sacrificing what matters most to you so you can feel safe, it may be time to switch gears. Real security comes from knowing you can be true to your own values.
Sagittarius 🧪😃⛪😤🤠
Your ruler Jupiter has entered the sign of community: Aquarius. This innovative sign is a wonderful support for you. It encourages you to think outside of the box, do things your own way, and build friendships and network with those who can appreciate you when you march to your own beat. At the same time, Jupiter is conjunct self-serious Saturn. So as much as you may be eager to innovate and improvise—and opportunities to do so will be plentiful—you’ll also find yourself looking at big important questions regarding tradition and security. You have a rebellious streak, and you may want to deal with all of this by acting out and doing something shocking. Getting a new piercing may please you in the moment, but it won’t resolve the tension you’re feeling. The real lesson here is that big opportunities come with big responsibilities—and that can be its own kind of adventure.
