Have you ever hooked up in a college library? Me neither! But locking lips in the stacks sure is a sexy image. So sexy that the University of Moncton in New Brunswick, Canada, is catching heat for putting it front-and-center in a new promotional video.
Yeahhhh. Look at all those attractive students. They solve math problems on a transparent board! They play football! And they do sex stuff in the library.
It’s like an episode of Gossip Girl come to life.
The university’s professors and librarians association has gotten involved, and in a comment to CBC News called the ad “pathetic,” comparing it to “selling beer.”
The video was posted online by the university, and one part of the voiceover notes, “Notre langue c’est une fierté. Une force. C’est la langue du progres.“ A rough translation: “You should come here because of the French language.” But “langue” also means “tongue” in French. You use your tongue to French-kiss. Scandal!
Association president Marie-Noëlle Ryan is afraid the ad will attract the wrong sort. “It’s not the way that you will recruit serious students and people who really want to learn and have good diplomas,” she said.
The lone counterpoint comes from student Sebastein Mallet, who told the CBC, “I thought that’s awesome. I really enjoyed it.”
Well, there you have it.
