People spent an inordinate amount of time last summer dumping buckets of ice water on their heads. One of them was a California police officer who now faces up to six years in prison thanks to a video of her taking part in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge craze.
Pasadena, Calif., police officer Jaime Robinson, 39, was out of work on a disability claim last July when she appeared in a video that showed her lifting a 5-gallon bucket of ice water (which would weigh approximately 42 pounds) and dousing a fellow officer with it—an impressive feat for someone suffering from a debilitating lower back injury.
The video eventually reached the Pasadena Police Department, and some nine months later Robinson is facing four counts of insurance fraud.
The Pasadena district attorney believes Robinson lied not only about her injury last year, but also about a prior injury in 2012 for which she also received disability payments.
Robinson is said to have collected a total of approximately $117,000 while not working. She pled not guilty on Friday and her bail was set at $40,000. A trial has been set for June 10, after which—if she is found guilty—she could face up to six years and four months in prison.
