The Karen-exposing culture has reached such a fever pitch that it can be hard to distinguish the real ones from the fakes. A new viral video might lead you to believe that Karens are getting younger every day, but take heart, reader—it appears that civilians are actually just getting better at spoofing Karens.
The video in question appeared on the r/FuckYouKaren subreddit on Sunday, where it has since received over 20,000 upvotes. At first glance, it looks like an authentically obnoxious Karen, but the “Satire Karen” Reddit flair tells a different story.
The video is actually the work of 18-year-old TikToker @chocolatechiptessie (who goes by “Victoria” on her profile), whose Karen parodies have earned her nearly half-a-million followers. Her latest video takes place in a bowling alley, where she hits all the right notes of indignation.
“You need to learn how to wait your turn when you’re bowling next to my family,” Victoria demands. “I could be a professional, and you could be screwing me up.”
“I can see your score, you’re definitely not a professional,” the man filming the video responds. “You finished the game with 40 points.”
Victoria smugly announces that she’s taken pictures of the man and his family on a magnificently outdated cell phone that looks like it stopped being sold circa 2008. She then repeats thrice, “You don’t know bowling etiquette,” in that clipped, robotic tone that the strongest Karens employ when they want you to know the argument is over and they have emerged the victor.
The satirical Karen then airs her grievances to a bowling alley employee, accusing the man of recording her, physically assaulting her, and calling her a slur.
“Yeah, you’re a bitch,” the man replies, at which point the video cuts to the phony Karen storming through the parking garage and following him to his car.
Victoria’s new Karen video has spread like wildfire on social media, earning over 400,000 likes and nearly 95,000 retweets when shared by Twitter user @EnemyAJ13O. Not everybody has gotten the joke—and among those who have, not everybody has appreciated it.
“The existence of entitled, stupid people far more caustic than portrayed here makes the joke ineffective,” Redditor u/Dushin commented. “I personally didn’t find this funny because I’ve seen too many Karen videos that eclipse the behavior in this video in every way.”
