You know how some people think of East and West Coast cities like New York and Los Angeles as depraved dens of iniquity, or the 21st century equivalents of Sodom and Gomorrah? Well, it turns out we left-wing communist Jewish homosexual pornographers have nothing on the Great Plains or the Midwest, where secret kinksters are apparently hunched over their computers en masse searching for BDSM porn.

According to a recent post from Pornhub Insights, the streaming tube site’s data analytics blog, the kinkiest states aren’t New York or California or even Washington (where 50 Shades of Grey takes place), but Wyoming, Alaska, and Vermont. Those are the states where general BDSM-related search terms like “BDSM,” “bondage,” and “punish” are the most popular.

Pornhub compiled the data on which specific terms were most popular in each individual state, with “punish,” “dominate,” and “bondage” coming out on top in Wyoming, West Virginia, and Montana, respectively. Damn, Montana, for a state with twice as many cows as people, it’s… well, actually, it’s not all that surprising that you’d have your fair share of kinksters.

The Pornhub Insights post also analyzed the data on the most popular BDSM porn searches worldwide. Given the Germanic preference for order and discipline, it probably won’t surprise you guys to learn that Austria and Germany topped the list, with BDSM-related search terms comprising 1.87 and 1.67 percent of total porn searches.

The site also compiled the three most popular BDSM-related search terms worldwide, which are, in descending order, “punish,” “bondage,” and “slave.” All of the BDSM terms in aggregate account for about 1.27 percent of all worldwide Pornhub searches. That’s a fairly small percentage, but sizeable nonetheless, especially considering the impact 50 Shades of Grey has had on our own sex lives. One study estimating that sales of BDSM-related toys such as gags, whips and chains increased by more than 200 percent since the book came out in 2012.

So get to work and start buying those riding crops and Ben Wa balls, East and West coasters. We can’t let our Wyoming and Alaska-residing brethren beat us in the bedroom (or dungeon, as the case may be). Time to whip ourselves into shape.
