A viral video shows a male “Karen” getting himself kicked out of Home Depot for refusing to wear a mask after demanding, “Where’s the science?”
The video, posted to Reddit’s r/PublicFreakout page, shows the male Karen getting in the face of a Home Depot supervisor named Raul who’s apparently approached him about wearing a mask. The anti-masker also claims to work for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
“I’m allowed in the store because I have an exemption, but you’re just going to let me walk around with no mask and just not serve me?” Karen asks the employee. “So I can super-spread everything, but you just won’t sell me things?”
Raul tells the male Karen he can “film me all you want,” but he isn’t going to get anything out of the store.
“Do you know what a HIPAA law is?” Karen asks another Home Depot employee. “I don’t know why you’re infringing on my constitutional rights when I work for the government.” (Even if he does work for the Port Authority, it should be noted that it’s a state joint venture—and, ironically, it began implementing fines last November to enforce face masks inside its facilities.)
The anti-masker continues to claim he’s exempt from wearing a mask, ramming his phone in the employees’ faces. A female employee tells him he can be in the store if he has a medical exemption, but it’s Home Depot’s store policy to not provide customer service to those choosing not to wear a mask.
“I just want to show you the stupidity,” the anti-masker says. “I’m gonna walk around here for three hours and super-spread, and I’m not gonna buy nothing.”
He then nonsensically claims that he “risked (his) life” for his rights and asks “Where’s the science?” He repeats, “I wanna see science!”
“Where the hypothesis?” he demands, now in meltdown mode. “Give me the hypothesis!”
“I’m super-spreading. I’m a superspreader!” he yells as he spins around.
Finally realizing he’s not going to get what he wants, and remembering the police were called, the male Karen hurries out of the Home Depot. As he leaves, he claims he’s “a multi-millionaire” and that’s he’s “going to have a nice life.”
Viewers shared their disgust with the male Karen and said the video served as a reminder of the credit that retail workers deserve.
“Retail workers don’t get paid enough to put up with these assholes!” commented u/LouStools68. “This guy [breathes] and yells really well for someone ‘unable’ to wear a mask.”
