What’s the ultimate power trip?
Is it commanding a legion of Imperial Forces? Force-choking your enemies? What about dog-fighting in an X-Wing until you’ve crushed every last remaining TIE Fighter? If you answered “YES, OH MY GOD” to any of these then Star Wars Battlefront is the game you’ve been waiting for your whole life.
Star Wars Battlefront puts you in the driver’s seat of iconic characters like Boba Fett or Darth Vader, allowing you to play in a wide range of modes from a 40-person multiplayer to solo missions. New locations like Sullust offer even the most diehard of Star Wars fans something new and fresh.
The developers’ inspiration behind the game was simple: They saw their boss’ daughter playing with an AT-AT and action figures on the floor. Translating that simple joy to a video game was what came next. Impressively, Star Wars Battlefront is also the first video game to feature Dolby Atmos sound—and it makes a difference.
Announced today by DICE, an Electronic Arts Inc. studio, and Lucasfilm, Star Wars Battlefront will be released Nov. 17 in North America with a European date to follow shortly thereafter. It aims to deliver the most immersive and authentic Star Wars video-game experience. Based on the in-game footage demonstrated in a closed-door session and a trailer that premiered today, it looks very promising that they succeeded.
EA’s unprecedented access to the Lucasfilm Archives and Skywalker Sound enabled them to move past creating a movie game and resulted in a more intuitive and genuine Star Wars experience. And if you weren’t tempted yet, a free DLC of the Battle of Jakku (eagle-eyed enthusiasts will note that this was the battle that creates the wasteland of ships in The Force Awakens trailer) will be made available to those who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront on Dec.1 and as a wider to release to all other players on Dec. 8.
