Joseph Gordon-Levitt is gracing the cover of the August issue of GQ, but behind his smirk is bit of anger that is percolating on the actor’s Tumblr.
The Dark Knight Rises star posted Tuesday addressing a claim in the magazine’s article about how his older brother died. The actor took issue with GQ for writing that his brother Dan’s 2010 death was caused by an “alleged drug overdose.”
“Using the word ‘alleged’ technically allows the writer to say whatever she wants,” wrote Gordon-Levitt in a post titled “BURNING dAN IN GQ.” “The ‘allegations’ to which she must be referring were made by a handful of gossip websites. They are factually incorrect according to the coroner’s office and the police department.”
Gordon-Levitt goes on to explain that he does not like talking about his brother’s death publicly but is making an exception to address the magazine’s “irresponsible claim.” The cause of his brother’s death is not publicly known but many websites speculated that it was related to drugs.
The post garnered 3,300 notes with some Tumblr users reblogging the post adding messages of support. A user wrote “You’re great Joe. That was insensitive of the interview.”
Gordon-Levitt was one of the first celebrities to join Tumblr when he created a site for his online production company, hitRECord, in 2009.
Other celebrities have used their Tumblr accounts as platform for their personal views. Singer Lauryn Hill posted a message in June about the allegations she failed to pay taxes. Performer Frank Ocean also used his personal Tumblr in early July to reveal his first love was with a man.
