The debt ceiling, Wisconsin protests and the tsunami off the coast of Japan were all major Twitter trending topics in their day but none of them grabbed America’s attention like Thursday’s episode of “Jersey Shore” did.
During the season four premiere nine of the top 10 trending topics in the U.S. were “Jersey Shore” related. And atleast one hashtag, #paulyd, was trending worldwide.
“Ooh Yeahh I Love Trending On Twitter This Time A Yeahhhhh ( In My Voice )!!!” tweeted Paul “ DJ Pauly D” DelVecchio shortly after the show.
The reality show was mentioned in more than 311,000 tweets, with more than 50 percent of those sent during the program, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Not to mention, about 8.8 million people tuned in last night to see the guidos and guidettes take Florence, Italy, by storm, tweeted Brian Stelter of The New York Times. It was MTV’s highest rated premiere, Stelter added.
While fame, and countless hours of tanning, has certainly taken its toll on the eight “Italian” American’s, it doesn’t look they’ll stop partying anytime soon.
