After one year and over 3 million readers, I think it’s time the Daily Dot finally had its own theme song.
That’s why, for the Dot’s first anniversary, I made a music video devoted to all the communities we cover, with the help of my Explainer Music colleague Andrew Bean.
Lyrics:
A new site was born one year ago
Devoted to people who call the Web home
Viral video creators, all kinds of meme makers
Reply girls, redditors, trolls, and dogshamers
Weird Etsys, weird Wikipedia entries
Pinterest, the Pirate party, and r/trees
Bloggers, Kickstarters, fake Twitter accounts
And whatever’s on YouTube right now
All the news that’s fit to print,
retweet, like, reblog, upvote, or pin
It’s the Daily Dot: hometown paper of the Web
It’s the Daily Dot: a record of the Internet
Who’s the authority on bronies? The Daily Dot
Who exposes SOPA cronies? The Daily Dot
And when that guy from the Atlantic was banned by Reddit?
Who was there on the spot? The Daily Dot
From a Morning GIF and the latest remix
To 4chan and Anonymous
Their beat is Twitter, Tumblr, Facebook, Reddit, Etsy, Canvas, Pinterest
And sometimes even Google+
All the news that’s fit to print,
retweet, like, reblog, upvote, or pin
It’s the Daily Dot: hometown paper of the Web
It’s the Daily Dot: a record of the Internet
