At this rate, Arrested Development, the comeback, won’t need an advertising budget to promote its new shows and movie.

Just overnight, Arrested Development actor Jason Bateman told his followers in a  tweet that the series that once had a cult following will return for “10 episodes and the movie…. VERY excited!” he wrote.

He wasn’t the only one. That one tweet has already passed 14,000 retweets, outpacing some of the most popular tweets of all time.

In December 2010, Twitter revealed the ten most retweeted tweets of the year. While Twitter’s chart is vague, Mashable and Topsy pinpointed retweets of the top tweet of the year, Stephen Colbert’s sardonic comment about the BP oil spill, to about 37,000: “In honor of oil-soaked birds, ‘tweets’ are now ‘gurgles.’ http://bit.ly/cIhZNf.”

A tweet by Actor Will Arnett, who co-starred with Bateman and now is starring in sitcom Up All Night, closely followed Bateman’s retweets.

“I’m peeing with @batemanjason at the moment..and we can confirm that we are going to make new AD eps and a movie,” he wrote. So far, that’s gotten 10,000 retweets.

The New Yorker’s tweet about the series’ new season, also had nearly 10,000 retweets.

The Twitter celebration wasn’t just a sea of retweets, of course. Fans also shared their obvious excitement about the comeback:

“Obama kills Osama bin Laden, brings back Arrested Development, WHAT MORE DO YOU PEOPLE WANT,” wrote one fan.

“Arrested Development to return to TV after show creator finds money in the banana stand,” another quipped.

“Arrested Development is filming 10 new episodes. I won’t take complete credit for answered prayers, but I’ll take some,” said another.
