If you’ve ever discovered that you’re too reliant on cellphone service, it’s usually the moment when you need it the most.
It’s 2017. Why is this still a thing? The founders of goTenna probably asked a similar question at some point. goTenna allows you to access an off-grid network where you can send texts and GPS locations to other goTenna users in the area whenever your cell service provider does you dirty.
The device lets you send both private messages and public broadcasts to goTenna users, so if you’re stranded in the middle of a hike in rural Montana or can’t connect with friends at a crowded music festival, odds are someone’s got you. You can even use it on a flight while in airplane mode, you just have to turn on Bluetooth.
The device costs $149.99 for a pair, which is a worthwhile investment to never find yourself stranded without a map again.
