Over the weekend, the East Coast was hit with a spate of unseasonably warm weather, with temperatures nearing 70 degrees in the middle of January.
Pleasant as it was, it was also a tad disconcerting, given the ever-looming worry about climate change.
And the Trump White House, which has been criticized for not doing more about climate change at the policy level, was instead of tweeting about the nice day outside and saying it was snowing.
It was snowing in D.C. earlier in the week, so it’s possible that it was either a scheduled tweet that someone got the date wrong on, or just a person finally sorting through images of the week and sharing it.
But people on Twitter assumed it was a winking troll tweet from the president and it sparked accusations of climate change denial, memes, and even conspiracy theories.
It’s currently 53 degrees and clear in DC but Trump’s White House claims it’s snowing.

And they expect us to believe them about national security issues. 😂 https://t.co/BnvbBAkDzW

It’s snowing in DC to the same extent that Trump is innocent.
These folks aren’t even competent at lying. https://t.co/yviQcyY5B0

Others considered the possibility that it was a secret message to the Russians (it isn’t).
I don’t want to sound like Alex Jones here but is this some sort of secret communication? Racking my brain to make any sort of sense of this. It nearly hit 70 degrees in DC today. https://t.co/aLwOz5HKVD

Again, it’s probably just a photo from Tuesday that they posted Sunday.
