Trump Federal Reserve Golf Tweet

President Donald Trump criticized the Federal Reserve on Monday morning, calling it the economy’s “only problem” while comparing it to a golfer with bad technique.

The tweet comes as the president has heightened his scrutiny of the Federal Reserve and reportedly considered firing Jerome Powell, the chief of the Federal Reserve.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin tweeted a quote from the president on Sunday where Trump said he doesn’t believe he has the “right” to axe Powell. But that doesn’t mean he can’t tweet at him.

The president’s ire seems to stem from the Federal Reserve, an independent agency, for raising interest rates, CNBC notes.

On Monday the president let loose on Twitter, comparing the Federal Reserve to a bad golfer.

“The only problem our economy has is the Fed,” the president wrote on Monday. “They don’t have a feel for the Market, they don’t understand necessary Trade Wars or Strong Dollars or even Democrat Shutdowns over Borders. The Fed is like a powerful golfer who can’t score because he has no touch – he can’t putt!”

The president’s golf metaphor did not go noticed by people online.

Because of the shutdown, the president cancelled his holiday trip to Mar-a-Lago. Last year, over the holiday, the president golfed eight times.

Perhaps that’s why his mind went there as the markets have collapsed. As of press time, the Dow Jones is down 500 points.
