People have been eagerly anticipating watching the two hash out their policy positions and political values.

Instead, the internet can’t stop talking about Trump’s fake tan.

The president is well-known for his penchant for an artificial, summery glow. In preparation for his big moment before a national audience, he appears to have gone extra heavy on the bronzer.

Twitter stood up and took notice.

“The amount of self-tanner is OFF THE CHAIN!!!” tweeted Andy Cohen.

Comedian Emily Brandwin got out some paint swatches. “Normally, Trump’s midway between Orange Zest & Carrot Stick,” she tweeted.

She wasn’t the only one trying to guess that shade. “President Trump has turned from orange to red,” said David Rothschild.

Others worried that bronzer wouldn’t stay put under the lights.

All told, internet commentators had many thoughts about Trump’s skin tone.

Trump’s skin tone wasn’t the only thing about his appearance drawing commentary online. Many felt the president bore an uncanny resemblance to the Grinch—albeit in a slightly different shade.

“If the Grinch was orange, he would look like Donald Trump,” observed one.

The debate was about as mature as the reactions online.
