Michael Cohen Testimony

Both sons of President Donald Trump have defended their father and criticized the testimony of Michael Cohen, the former longtime lawyer for the president, who is in front of the House Oversight and Reform Committee today.

Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump echoed the sentiments of Republicans on the committee who questioned the integrity of Cohen—who previously pled guilty to lying to Congress—and implied that his testimony was because he did not get a job in the White House.

Eric Trump called the hearing a “national disgrace” for going on during the president’s trip to Vietnam to speak with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

During the hearing, Cohen was asked by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) whether he “wanted to work in the White House,” saying that the negative testimony Cohen was giving was because he was not brought into Trump’s administration.

“Here’s what I see,” Jordan said. “I see a guy who worked for 10 years and is here trashing the guy he worked for for 10 years, didn’t get a job in the White House, and now you’re behaving just like everyone else who’s got fired or didn’t get the job they wanted—like Andy McCabe, like James Comey. Same kind of selfish motivation after you don’t get the thing you want. That’s what I see here today.”

Cohen denied the implication.

However, both Trump sons seemed to think differently.

“Hahahaha Michael Cohen begged to work at the White House and everyone knows it,” Trump Jr. wrote.

Soon, Eric Trump followed: “Michael was lobbying EVERYONE to be “Chief of Staff.” It was the biggest joke in the campaign and around the office. Did he just perjure himself again?”

Trump Jr. quote tweeted his brother, adding:

“Nailed it. It really was the biggest joke of the entire transition. The beginning of his bitterness was when he realized that was never going to happen. #Delusional.”
