Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx.) has been hitting hard against his Democratic midterm opponent Beto O’Rourke in recent weeks—as polls show the race between the two creeping closer.
The latest reason Cruz thinks voters should choose him over O’Rourke? Sometimes his opponent curses.
The Texas senator tweeted out an attack ad on Monday that shows O’Rourke cursing at several public events in the past.
“A lighthearted reminder: A #LaborDay picnic is a great place to bring the kids. A Beto O’Rourke rally? Not so much… #TXSen,” he wrote.

The senator may be feeling the heat. An Emerson College poll released late last month found Cruz leading O’Rourke by just one point. Real Clear Politics, which tracks a number of polls and averages those out, has the senator leading his Democratic challenger by 4.4 points.
Since then the incumbent senator and the Texas Republican party have been turning up the attacks, including using an old mugshot of O’Rourke that people found quite attractive. A campaign ad released last week attacked O’Rourke’s viral speech where he defended people protesting injustice during the national anthem at NFL games.
President Donald Trump also entered the fray, announcing last week that he would campaign for Cruz in October.
The latest attack ad shared by the Texas senator shows O’Rourke saying “fuck” several times in the past during public appearances, and argues that people should “maybe keep the kids at home.”
As of Tuesday morning, Cruz’s tweet was harshly mocked and ratioed, with more than 9,000 people replying to it compared to 5,500 people liking it.

This ad is going to spectacularly blow up in Ted’s face. Too bad I can’t vote #BetoforTexas, because after seeing this ad, I totally would. https://t.co/PMG3aQo6oh

This is just the latest attack on O’Rourke by Cruz and Republicans that people online have said make them like the Democratic challenger more.
