Sure, yachts are nice, but they’re just so slow. Most yachts are built with comfort in mind, providing the uber rich a place to kick back and think about all their money resting in a bank account somewhere. The Super Sports SS18 isn’t here for sunbathing. This sci-fi dream blends a glider boat with the stretch luxury of yacht, putting 59-feet of speedy glamour on the water for your next nautical adventure.
With a top speed of 56 knots, about 64 MPH, this monstrosity of aquatic engineering features four engines working in unison to provide 1,080 horse power of propulsive driving water jets. Its aerodynamic glider design is similar to an F1 car and allows the SS18 to slice through rough water with remarkable ease. According to an interview with designer Rob Mccall by Design Boom, the ship’s propulsion and stability controls tune themselves to the sea’s conditions, allowing it handle choppy waters with ease.
The ship’s helm has a fully integrated navigational system powered by Garmin, complete with touch screen controls. While Yacht amenities like a game room have been cast aside, the ship is still plenty luxurious, from its custom leather seats to chrome edging and a gorgeous color-coordinated interior.
The SS18 is just the beginning. Mccall is now working on the Hyper Sports 18, or HS18. The new boat will feature the same basic hull but improved engines and turbines will allow the HS18 to go from 0 to 60 in under 3.5 seconds. That’s some serious speed.
