Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) returned to Congress on Thursday, months after he was wounded when a gunman opened fire at a congressional baseball practice.
Scalise was shot in the hip when James Hodgkinson, of Illinois, allegedly opened fire on a baseball field in Virginia. Hodgkinson also injured several other people. His Facebook profile showed that he was an ardent supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) during the 2016 election. Hodgkinson died in custody.
Eyewitness video taken near the ball field showed several people running as gunshots can be heard in the distance.
The representative, who has been recuperating since the attack, posted on Twitter early Thursday morning, simply saying “I’m back.”

During an interview with 60 Minutes that will air on Sunday, Scalise said his femur was “shattered” and his hip and pelvis had “serious damage” where the bullet went through him.
“They did a phenomenal job of rebuilding Humpty Dumpty,” he says during the interview. “There was a lot of damage inside that had to get fixed.”
