The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ will show up on doorsteps on April 21, and you should plan to have a case on hand when that day arrives. The nearly all-glass device will be susceptible to shattering, like every glass phone that came before it – the iPhone 4, Nexus 4, and Galaxy S7, to name a few.
It’s a sad realization, but unless you’re OK with the risk of destroying that stunning infinity display, you’ll need to cover this beautiful and pricey phone with a durable case. Thankfully, you have options.
The best Samsung Galaxy S8 cases
1) Spigen Rugged Armor
Spigen is a well-known phone case and accessories producer out of California. It already offers 18 different cases for the Galaxy S8 and S8+, including the popular Rugged Armor series. The case’s shell is made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), a flexible, rubber-like material. One of its best features is the slightly raised lips around the edge of the device that help protect the screen. The sleek Rugged Armor comes in matte black with carbon fiber textures, and it costs around $20.
2) Caseology Parallax
Made of polycarbonate and TPU, the Caseology Parallax is a slim-fitting case with a beautiful dual-color design and 3D-checkered pattern. It is advertised to be anti-shock, anti-scratch, and impact resistant. The Parallax is available for less than $20 in two-tone black or burgundy.
3) Speck CandyShell Grip
If you aren’t familiar with the name, you’ve probably seen an iPhone case or two with that asterisks logo. Speck has been making cases for a while now, and the CandyShell Grip is one of its most popular. Standout features include raised edges for protecting the screen, reinforced corners for absorbing falls, and a rubber texture on the back to keep the phone from sliding.
4) OtterBox Symmetry
You know the name. OtterBox has been protecting phones since 2001 with its bulky, durable cases. But its Symmetry line is refreshingly slim. It is made of polycarbonate and rubber to protect from drops while remaining flexible. The Symmetry is currently available in black and champagne. There is also a clear “Stardust” version if you want to show off your phone.
4) Samsung Clear
This OEM case is a .8mm piece of glossy plastic. It doesn’t add bulk, it doesn’t take away from the phone’s design, and it protects the back glass. You’ll still have to worry about the screen, but at least your device will be looking as gorgeous as ever
6) Supcase Full-Body Rugged
Supcase makes a heavy-duty 3-piece holster case made of TPU and polycarbonate. It includes a belt clip that can rotate 360 degrees for quick access. One of the most durable cases around, the Supcase Full-body rugged costs less than $20 and garnished some pretty convincing reviews on the S7 Edge model.
7) LK Ultra [slim thin]
Also made of that flexible, rubbery TPU material, the LK Ultra is super thin and dirt cheap. It costs less than $10 and comes in several different colors, including black, purple, mint, and clear. This is a no-nonsense, slim, and lightweight case for those who want to protect the back of their device without damaging its aesthetics.
8) Spigen Neo Hybrid
The Spigen Neo Hybrid sits somewhere between the Supcase and the LK Ultra. It is dual-layered, featuring a polycarbonate back with TPU edges, and a polycarbonate frame. It has raised lips to protect both the screen and camera, and it comes in Crystal (clear) or standard dual-color version.
9) Samsung Clear View Standing Cover
I’m a big fan of OEM cases, as manufacturers have no room for error when it comes to fit and finish. Samsung already announced a bunch of interesting cases for its Galaxy S8 and S8+, so you may not have to look very far to find the one that best suits your needs.
One of the most interesting offerings is the Clear View Standing Cover. Samsung calls it a “translucent matte” cover (what?) that also acts as a stand. The Clear View Standing Cover is essentially a flexible plastic flip case with a hazy front cover that allows you to peek at notifications. It also doubles as a stand so you can prop your phone up on a flat surface.
10) Hansmare calf leather wallet
Made of genuine calf leather and filled with various compartments, this stunning Galaxy S8 wallet appears as durability as it is practical. The interior of the case can hold notes, credit cards, and cash. The gorgeous pink-and-purple wallet also doubles as a stand and only costs around $20.
