The Washington Post and ABC News released a poll on Friday that found Americans have an increasingly dour view of the president—including 49 percent of those polled who believed Congress should begin considering impeaching Trump.

While 60 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump, 36 percent of those polled approved of his time in office, according to the poll.

However, a series of polls has once again shown the divide in America is staunchly on party lines, and nowhere is this more apparent than the investigation headed by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

A majority of Republicans don’t have a high opinion of Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and other related matters, Public Policy Polling, a left-leaning pollster, found.

According to the poll, 67 percent of Republicans believe Mueller’s investigation should be shut down, compared to just 25 percent who believe it should continue. Axios first reported on the poll.

It is perhaps unsurprising that a large number of Republicans don’t believe Mueller’s investigation should continue. Trump has routinely bashed the investigation as a “witch hunt,” and accused the team heading the probe of having a bias.

The push from the president seems to have stuck. The poll found 68 percent of Republicans strongly agreed that the investigation was a “witch hunt.”

Meanwhile, the Washington Post and ABC News poll found that 63 percent of Americans support Mueller’s investigation, compared to just 29 percent who oppose it.

Among the views on Mueller, 61 percent of Republicans opposed the investigation, compared to 85 percent of Democrats and 67 percent of independents supporting it.
