The violent, disturbing images of what may be excessive force used by law enforcement during crackdowns on the Occupy Wall Street movement have created an unsettling parallel to civil-rights era and Vietnam War protests.
That connection was made evident last week with Dorli Rainey. The elderly activist participated in all three protest movements. At an Occupy protest, she was pepper-sprayed in the face.
The Daily Dot reported on that event, along with the arrest of former Philadelphia Police Captain Ray Lewis, among others, but that’s merely the tip of the proverbial iceberg.
Adbusters, an international magazine for activists, has created a visual timeline of police encounters at Occupy protests. The comprehensive Storify features a starling array of photos, response videos, and tweets that will shock and dismay.
