Mitt Romney, you may have heard, did not win the Presidency of the United States on Tuesday.
But for a brief period after the election, his website indicated that he did.
As screengrabbed by PoliticalWire, Romney’s victory site was briefly visible between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. The site’s main page depicted a windswept Romney in a suit, standing in front of an American flag, under the quote “The 21st century can and must be an American century. The torch America carries is one of decency and hope,” credited to President-Elect Mitt Romney. Another quote next to him reads “I’m excited about our prospects as a nation. My priority is putting people back to work in America.”
One page is devoted to encouraging people who wanted to apply for jobs in the Romney administration. “One of President-elect Romney’s top priorities is to select men and women of the greatest ability and highest ethical and professional integrity to serve in policy making and key administrative positions in his administrations,” it says, noting that many positions would require Senate confirmation. There’s an “Apply online” button in the lower-right corner.
Another page, simply titled “Inauguration,” notes that since Inauguration day, Jan. 20, falls on a Sunday in 2013, Romney would swear his oath of office in a private ceremony that day, with an inaugural parade the following day.
MittRomney.com is now fixed, mostly. It’s essentially the same campaign site it was before the election, except now there’s simply the words “Thank You,” and his signature. BarackObama.com is similar. It’s also only been slightly updated since the election, but now includes a smiling Obama and the words “Thank you: this is your victory,” his victory speech, and a blog post titled “How this happened.”
According to NetworkSolutions.com, the registration on the MittRomney.com domain expires on Feb. 13, 2013. It’s unclear if Romney will keep the domain; JohnMcCain.com, the website of Obama’s Republican opponent from 2008, has since gone fallow, even though it’s registered through 2017.
