First Lady Melania Trump unveiled the White House’s annual Christmas decorations on Monday—which she designed herself— only to be trolled online.

The 2018 theme is America’s Treasures and a one-minute long trailer shows the first lady strolling through the presidential residence, taking in the festive decor and gently placing a bauble on a glowing tree.
It’s some of Trump’s more daring decor choices, however, that have really divided opinion, like the rows of red “blood trees” lining the corridors of the east colonnade—evoking Halloween more than the holiday season.
It was instant meme material.

I think this is cool, does anyone know where I can get the blood of the innocent to paint my Christmas tree? pic.twitter.com/VRh7t1IqNm

There were lots of references to the horror movie The Shining.

While others believed the first lady had been inspired by the palace of the White Witch from fantasy book series Narnia.

Some also made comparisons to the distinct uniforms of the oppressed women of the dystopian show The Handmaid’s Tale.

But it’s also very possible that the first lady was quite simply inspired by a drive-thru car wash.

The more we look at it, the more this appears the case.
Last Christmas, Melania also terrified the internet around the holidays while taking in some ballet.
