According to Los Angeles Police Sgt. Roberto Alaniz, via the Los Angeles Times, the unidentified driver had picked up two passengers around 5am PST on Sunday, Aug. 19. While pulling away from the pickup area, a car pulled up to him. The two began arguing, and within moments, the driver of the other car shot the Lyft driver in the head.

The Lyft driver crashed his car into a fire hydrant, while the assailant escaped, driving a “dark, Toyota-type car.” The two passengers had ducked and were not injured. The Lyft driver was taken to the hospital and went into surgery to remove the bullet from his brain, and he’s “going to be OK” Alaniz said.

According to CBS Los Angeles, the victim is 24 years old.

Lyft told the Daily Dot in a statement that the “allegations are extremely frightening and upsetting.”

“The safety of our community has been our number one priority since day one. Our thoughts are with the driver, who we have reached out to extend our full support. We have also reached out to the passenger [sic], and we stand ready to assist in any investigation,” the statement read.
