North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il has died at the age of 69 and it didn’t take long for Twitter to take notice. The Associated Press reported Sunday night that North Korean state television tearfully announced the leaders death.

The subject quickly began trending on Twitter, with some people merely spreading the news, while others immediately offered humorous observations or asking questions of the remote nation’s future. Along with Kim, Fidel Castro was also trending, with Twitter users noting that 2011 has been a deadly year for dictators. Some people were even using hash-tags like #dictatordeath and #nomoredictators.
