Arizona Sen. John McCain has been spending a lot of time on Twitter recently.  Now, he’s taken shots at Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

The former Republican presidential nominee recently tweeted a Wall Street Journal story about the elections in Russia, along with a damning comment. “Dear Vlad, The #ArabSpring is coming to a neighborhood near you.”

Putin, who is currently running for a third, non-consecutive term as Russia’s president, responded to McCain’s criticisms in a lengthy, talk-show interview last week. The prime minister dismissed McCain as being “nuts.” Putin told the televisions host, “Mr. McCain was captured in Vietnam and they kept him not just in prison, but in a pit for several years. Anyone [in his place] would go nuts.”

Further escalating the cold war of words, McCain fired back.”Dear Vlad, is it something I said? AP: ‘Putin Mocks Protesters, Calls John McCain ‘Nuts,’’” he wrote.
