A Manhattan call girl allegedly working for “Millionaire Madame” Anna Gristina claimed John Edwards to be one of her clients, according to DNAinfo.
A prostitute told investigators that the incident occurred in 2007, when Edwards was in New York raising money for his failed presidential bid.
Edwards is the first big name to be mentioned in connection with Gristina’s alleged prostitution ring, which was run out of an Upper East Side apartment.
Although Edwards has vehemently denied the allegations, the Twitter users reacted with a series of jabs toward the former politician, quickly becoming a national trending topic.
Many of the tweets stated that the alleged incident should come as little surprise. After Edwards’s run for the Oval Office in 2004, he gained notoriety after engaging in an extramarital affair while his wife, Elizabeth Edwards, was battling cancer.
