It’s the end of an era: The Huffington Post is no longer calling Donald Trump a “racist” and a “serial liar” in every story about the Republican candidate.
As Politico first reported, the following editor’s not that was posted at the bottom of every Trump article is no more. The note read:
“Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.”
The left-leaning publication added the note after first relegating Trump coverage to its Entertainment section. That changed after he beat 16 other “serious” Republican candidates to win the GOP nomination.
According to Ryan Grim, HuffPo’s Washington bureau chief, the reason to remove the note as Trump appeared poised to beat Democrat Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House was to “start with a clean slate.”
“This note was added to stories about presidential candidate Donald Trump during the election cycle,” Sujata Mitra, a HuffPo spokesperson, wrote in a statement. “Now that the election is over, we will no longer be adding the note to future stories, as he is no longer a presidential candidate.”
