A man who appears to be a Bernie Sanders supporter attempted to submit an obituary for Hillary Clinton to a Las Vegas newspaper—but ended up getting a visit from the Secret Service.
The man identified himself as Don Schubert, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, and visited the paper’s offices on Friday to fill out an obituary form for Clinton. Schubert listed Clinton’s date of death as Saturday, Feb. 20, the day of the Nevada caucuses. Staff members observed Schubert wearing a Bernie Sanders sticker on his shirt and noted that he had several Sanders stickers on his car. Schubert’s home in Long Beach, California, was listed on Sanders’ website as a volunteer phone bank location.
The paper called the Secret Service and reported Schubert’s actions.
Schubert said he had been contacted by the Secret Service but explained that the obituary had been an attempt at “political humor,” according to the Review-Journal.
Schubert had called the paper before to discuss the coin-flip decisions that became somewhat controversial during the Iowa caucuses.
Clinton won Saturday’s Nevada caucuses 52 percent to Sanders’ 47 percent. The Democratic primaries continue this week in South Carolina.
