You can sell almost anything—used socks, stained flip-flops—on eBay. Except a fake-urine-filled jar with a figurine of President Barack Obama in it.
That’s what conservative radio host Glenn Beck found out Tuesday when his “homage to Andres Serrano’s controversial photograph ‘Piss Christ’” was removed from the online auction site, the Daily Beast reported. The “art” was called “Obama in Pee Pee” and cost $25,000 (see the full segment here).
“It’s all protected by this document,” Beck said on his show, pointing to a framed Constitution. “So whether you’re offended by this one or by this one, it sucks to be you, doesn’t it?”
Beck left his daily Fox program in April 2011 after a “precipitous decline in ratings,” the Christian Science Monitor reported. Since then, Beck has taken his punditry and antics to TheBlaze TV, which he founded in September 2011. The network was picked up by the Dish Network in September.
TheBlaze TV currently has 300,000 subscribers. And earlier this week, Beck signed a Clear Channel radio deal for $100 million, the Daily Beast reported.
Following his failed eBay auction, Beck launched a Twitter account, @ObamaInPeePee, and some “Obama in Pee Pee” merchandise to help capitalize on his foray into art.
“I really enjoyed seeing the Obama in Pee Pee,” LHARDY commented on an article on TheBlaze polling the community on its opinion on the piece. “As much as I do not like some of the art that is intentionally offensive. I agree with their right to produce and display such art.”
