The social network confirmed to TechCrunch that it’s finally testing 4K, or Ultra High Definition (UHD), video uploads. Support for the resolution is reportedly coming to a select group of users who will be able to post and watch 4K clips.

The addition is long overdue. Facebook’s video rival YouTube was experimenting with the resolution in 2010, when products with 4K displays cost a fortune.  Now you can find 4K on inexpensive TVs, mid-tier laptops, and even some smartphones. Not to mention that every flagship phone released this year supports 4K video capture. Interestingly, Facebook started supporting the resolution back in July, but only for its 360-degree live platform.

It’s not clear how the social giant plans to roll out support for UHD content, but it typically tests new features with a small group before gradually releasing them to its more than 2 billion users. Until then, you can see if a video was uploaded in 4K by pressing on the small gear icon in the bottom right corner.
