There are two types of scientific experiments on YouTube: Those that illustrate some real science principal and those that try something bonkers just for fun.
This experiment by the guys behind the GizmoSlip channel definitely falls into the latter category. Using compressed air, they get a metal fidget spinner—a spinning toy that’s skyrocketing in popularity among kids and teens—going at a blistering clip before intentionally running it into the screen of a Galaxy S8.
Predictably, we get to see the glass face shatter in a satisfying slow-mo money shot. Does this prove fidget spinners are dangerous and destructive? Well, no, not unless you plan to play with one that’s been supercharged with compressed air. Instead, take this experiment for what it is: an interesting way to murder an expensive phone for the entertainment of millions on YouTube.
