Legendary boxing promoter Don King brought his bravado and bombastic hair style down to the Occupy Wall Street protests Tuesday to share his support.
“This is about humanity,” King said at downtown Manhattan’s Zuccotti Park. “You are fighting for change. I support change. I support what you’re doing in the manner in which you are doing it. I cannot speak on what I don’t understand but what I do understand poverty. I understand being poor. I understand being underprivileged.”
King, who is famous for negotiating the heavyweight championship fight between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in Zaire (“The Rumble in the Jungle”), has been a Twitter trending topic for the last 24 hours, with more than 1,000 people thanking the boxing giant for his appearance.
“No words for the awesomeness that was Don King on #OWS,” tweeted @blackcanseco.
“Don King payed us a visit at OWS kitchen tonight. I offered him spaghetti. He gave me a hug,” tweeted @francis608.
King is one of many celebrities to venture down to the protests in the last few weeks. Kanye West dropped by the park more than two weeks ago where he chatted with protesters and businessman Russell Simmons. A few days later Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine performed a free show for the protesters.
