Sen. Bernie Sanders‘ (I-Vt.) 2016 presidential campaign has produced a wide range of reactions—most of all, especially in the media, dismissive.
Jon Stewart isn’t so sure that reaction is appropriate, given how much attention far more extreme candidates get. Have we all forgotten Herman Cain?
Expanding social security, campaign finance reform, closing big banks, and pay equity for women are just a few examples, Stewart says, that this “kook” may just be a “rational, slightly left-of-center, mainstream politician.”
The problem, Stewart insists, centers of Sanders’ lack of a comb. In fact, in 1981, when Sanders won his first major election as mayor of Burlington, Vt., his staffers had to go out and buy him his first tie. Not exactly an image-focused politician. Maybe disheveled is the new pantsuit?
