Former FBI Director James Comey on Thursday pushed back against President Donald Trump’s threat of using tapes to prove the contents of their interactions.
When being questioned about conversations Comey had with Trump during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, and why he didn’t stop Trump from discussing the ongoing probe into former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, Comey seemed to think any possible tapes would vindicate his version of what transpired.
“I’ve seen the tweet about tapes,” Comey said. “Lordy, I hope there are tapes.”

Comey said he remembered saying “I agree he’s a good guy” as a way of saying he did not agree with Trump asking him to stop the investigation into Flynn.
“Maybe other people would be stronger in that circumstance,” Comey continued. “That’s how I conducted myself … maybe if I did it again, I’d do it better.”
Trump threatened Comey with a tweet shortly after he abruptly fired the former FBI Director last month.
“James Comey better hope that there are no ‘tapes’ of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!” Trump tweeted.
WikiLeaks offered $100,000 to anyone who would leak the taped conversations to them.
Former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who was also fired by Trump, seemed to have similar hope of existing tapes.
We can all agree with Jim Comey that, Lordy, we hope there are tapes.
