Today, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio officially announced his 2020 bid for the Democratic nomination for president, making him now the 23rd (ish, who really cares at this point) person joining the fray.
And how’s it going for de Blasio?
Outside Gracie Mansion just now, woman runs by and shouts, “Don’t do it, Bill!”

Me: “He’s doing it”
Jogger: “I can’t believe it. Nobody wants it.”
Not great. And it gets worse from there.
For starters, his own announcement got scooped. By a high schooler.
Yesterday, Good Morning America teased an interview with de Blasio today, where everyone expected him to announce. But one astute politics kid got his hands on an email that already revealed de Blasio was running.

Even better, they misspelled his name as “di Blasio.”
For those keeping score, de Blasio’s 2020 announcement appears to have been scooped by a high school journalist & the Iowa group hosting his visit spelled his name wrong https://t.co/0QoP6ley9Y

With his announcement no longer a secret, this morning, de Blasio tweeted out his launch video.
Today I am proud to announce my candidacy for president of the United States of America, because it’s time to finally put working people first.https://t.co/p7LYipgAPg

As New York City’s public transportation is currently crumbling, everyone wanted him to know that instead of running a doomed bid for president, he should fix the subway.

Fix the subway

fix the subways u towering buffoon

Then there were some who noticed de Blasio filmed his announcement in a government vehicle, which would be against the law.

Driven by a City employee and on City time. Also looks like a couple segments – Blue room with antiques – were filmed in Gracie Mansion.

If that wasn’t enough, Republicans are already issuing talking points about de Blasio, highlighting his murder of a groundhog, a thing that really happened.

And then there were the ex-de Blasio aides who said he was running simply because he was “bored.”
A former top aide for De Blasio told me this is exactly right: He is utterly bored and hates being mayor. He doesn’t expect to win but he just wants to get out of NYC. It’s… pathetic. https://t.co/hFdhMcMVv7
