Those hankering for a king-size iPad might finally get their wish at this year’s big Apple event.
9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman hears from his typically reliable sources that Apple is readying the iPad Pro—confirming the long-rumored naming scheme for a bigger Apple tablet—and could show it off alongside the new iPhone 6S at its Sept. 9 event.
Details about the device itself are sparse, but they reportedly include a larger Retina display, dual external speakers, and a Force Touch stylus.
Apple’s introduction of split-screen multitasking in iOS 9, which allows two apps to work side-by-side for the first time in iOS history, would fit perfectly on a larger iPad screen. The inclusion of a stylus suggests that the device could be aimed at creative types like illustrators.
If Apple does indeed show off a larger iPad alongside its new iPhone, it would go against the company’s recent trend of dedicating separate events to its phone and tablet lineups. Even if Apple is planning a November launch (and October pre-order window) for the iPad Pro, it’s still possible that there will be a a iPad event in October.
Either way, we’re now even more interested to see what Apple shows off on Sept. 9.
