Jimmy Fallon and Selena Gomez offered up a Nintendo tribute last night on his talk show, crooning a duet cover of Sam Hart’s “Mario Kart Love Song.” It inspired us to go on the hunt for more Mario- and Zelda-flavored songs from the heart.
So what do we learn from this roundup of video game–flavored romance? That these dudes have chick issues, basically. But we didn’t need Nintendo to tell us that.
1) “Video Games Remix” by Alex Hanly / Roboboots
This stylish remix of Lana Del Rey’s “Video Games” says it all.
2) “Dear Peach (Luigi Love Song)” by Nerd Alert ft. KurtHugoSchneider
If you didn’t ship it by the end of this surprisingly angsty vid, we don’t believe you.
3) “Yuri the Only One” by LeetStreet Boys
Because you and I make Nintendo Wii.
4) “I’m Sorry, Princess Ruto” by Sean Sydejko
This Legend of Zelda song addresses the unrequited love that Ruto the Sea Princess has for our hero, Link.
5) “Save You From the Dark” by JC Van Luyn ft. Docjazz4
This original song is composed from several themes from Legend of Zelda, and features an actual ocarina, the pan pipe featured in Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
6) “Mario Kart Love Song” by Sam Hart
This most famous of Nintendo songs has inspired parody replies and endless covers on YouTube.
7) “Princess Peach” by Purple Melon
I have no idea what this song has to do with Super Mario, but who cares, it’s Purple Melon.
8) “Hero” by Nerds With Guitars
9) “Hero of Time” by TeejsMusic
Bonus points for putting Princess Peach in drag.
10) “Christmas Calendar—Super Mario World” by the Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra
Because no list of Nintendo love songs would be complete without a “Let It Snow” mashup in which Mario gets increasingly frustrated trying to locate Peach’s castle.
