Kylie Jenner is facing a wave of backlash after she pointed her social media followers to a GoFundMe account to help pay for her makeup artist’s emergency surgery.

As reports show Jenner making over $1 million per Instagram post, the influencer drew heat from fans who wondered why she couldn’t foot the bill herself.

The fundraiser is for makeup artist Samuel Rauda, who was badly injured in a car crash. On her Instagram Story last week, Jenner wrote: “May God watch over you and protect you @makeupbysamuel. Everyone take a moment to say a prayer for Sam who got into an accident this past weekend. And swipe up to visit his families [sic] go fund me.”

Rauda, 26, has a clientele that includes Jenner, Chrissy Teigen, and Khloé Kardashian.

But despite the message of support, fans thought that Jenner’s message came off as tone-deaf given her own well-publicized wealth. (Jenner reportedly donated $5,000 to Rauda.)

“Hey @KylieJenner! Why don’t you ‘go fund’ your friends financial needs rather than asking your fans to do it,” one Twitter user wrote. “You know, your fans that are anxiously waiting for their $1,400 check to drop so they can [buy] food and pay bills.”

“That’s pocket change for her,” another wrote, referring to the cost of the surgery. “She donated a light 5k lmfao sis wtf ur a billionaire.”

Thankfully, at the time of publication, the donation page for Rauda is nearing $100,000 in donations. “It has been a week since Sam’s accident,” his family member wrote on Saturday. “It has not been easy. In the midst of it all, Sam continues to fight, showing us how strong he truly is.

“Please continue to send prayers his way.”
