Conservatives on Twitter quickly ripped into the idea of moving towards “100% synthetic beef,” after Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates suggested such in a recent interview with MIT Technology Review.

“I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef,” he stated.

Following Gates’ remarks, flame-throwing Rep. Lauren Boebert (R- Colo.) tweeted out a stock photo of steak Tuesday from the website of a New York butcher shop, telling Gates to “come and take it.”

The joke was on her, because the steak wasn’t actually in her possession.

Other conservative and right-wing voices also mocked the idea on Twitter:

Fox News pundits further poked fun at the idea on Wednesday afternoon:

“GREEN NEW MEAL! Bill Gates Says USA Must Switch to ‘100% Synthetic Beef’ to Fight Global Warming,” Fox News host Sean Hannity’s website screamed on Wednesday.

The conservative blog RedState further mocked the move to lower emissions, “Cow fart-free air, here we come,” one blogger wrote.

The fear-mongering over liberals taking away all your beef isn’t new for conservatives; back in 2019 at CPAC, right-wing radio host Sebastian Gorka claimed liberals were coming for your hamburgers.
