Amid allegations of emotional abuse from an ex-girlfriend and alleged leaked messages, Armie Hammer is offering an apology for referring to an unidentified woman wearing lingerie as “Miss Cayman” on Instagram.
Over the weekend, the Daily Mail first reported the existence of Hammer’s private Instagram account. Under the username @el_destructo_86, Hammer posted about taking drugs and complaining about a court-ordered drug test required in order to see his children.
In one video featuring a woman dressed in lingerie (but whose face isn’t shown), Hammer complained about his ex-wife Elizabeth Chambers while highlighting a so-called bright side to having to return to the Cayman Islands. (Hammer and Chambers announced their divorce last summer after 10 years of marriage.)
“Well… my ex (for a very good reason) wife is refusing to come back to america with my children,” the caption read. “So I have to go back to Cayman… which sucks. Except there are a few silver linings. Like fucking Ms. Cayman again while I’m down there.”
As word of Hammer’s private account spread, the Miss Cayman Islands Universe Committee released a statement denying that the woman referred to as “Miss Cayman” in Hammer’s video had any affiliation with the Miss Cayman Islands Universe pageant.
“The Committee is very disturbed by the video and would like to confirm that the woman is not the reigning Miss Cayman Islands and has no affiliation to the Miss Cayman Islands Universe pageant,” chairperson Derri Dacres-Lee wrote on Instagram. “The Committee and the reigning Miss Cayman regard this issue with the utmost seriousness and the matter has been reported to the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS).”
Soon enough, Hammer released a statement of his own to confirm that the “Miss Cayman” in his video had nothing to do with the beauty pageant.
“I would like to clarify that the person in my video, which was stolen from my private Instagram, is not Miss Cayman,” Hammer told the Cayman Compass in a statement. “I am genuinely sorry for any confusion my foolish attempt at humour may have caused. My deep sympathies to Miss Cayman, who I don’t know, and to the entire organization, as I had no intentions of implying she was actually Miss Cayman.”
Last week, Hammer stepped away from Shotgun Wedding and cited the “vicious and spurious online attacks against me” as to what led to him leaving the project.
