Earlier on in lockdown, chocolate bombs stole everyone’s hearts with their delightful combination of Christmas-elf-turned-mad-scientist antics and the promise of comforting, hot, chocolatey goodness. Now there’s a new contender for the “TikTok drink of the moment” throne: Tea bombs.
With their bright crystal shells, filled with herbs, loose-leaf tea, or flowers, tea bombs look like something out of a fairy’s tea party. The kind of thing where if you drink it you’ll never escape back to the real world. You drop the balls into hot water and they apparently dissolve into a delicious tea.
And the process of watching them dissolve and infuse into tea is just as magical as their initial appearance.
How do you make a TikTok tea bomb?
While plenty of TikTokers are making their tea bombs to order, yet another of the cottage industries springing up everywhere since the pandemic, they’re also pretty generous when it comes to sharing the secret of how they’re made.
The key to their delicately stained glass shells is sugar, melted down, dyed, and then poured into spherical molds. The two halves fasten together with a little more liquid sugar after the herbs and flowers have been safely placed inside.
Unfortunately for those who prefer their tea unsweetened there doesn’t seem to be a way to create a similar effect with a flavorless alternative yet. However, that just means all the more tea bombs for the rest of us.
