A video going viral on social media shows two white women freaking out in the middle of a Ft. Lauderdale, Florida airport after being arrested by police. But according to the user who uploaded the incident, there’s no connection to the Capitol riot arrests recently taking place in airports.
Moreover, it’s from November. It was also spliced into a viral clip of other Capitol riot arrests set to Derek and the Dominos’ “Layla,” a song featured during a montage in Goodfellas.
In the video, one of the women is heard repeatedly yelling “It hurts!” presumably referring to the restraints the police placed her in as they whisk her away from the building.
The video then focuses on the other woman placed in handcuffs, who is thrust to the ground by police after resisting arrest. The woman’s children, who appeared to be witnessing her arrest, are eventually carried away to a different side of the airport.
The video, which was originally uploaded to TikTok by user @yungxleen, was shortly reposted to the r/FuckYouKaren and r/PublicFreakout subreddits. This post has since garnered over 15,000 upvotes and over 800 comments. The TikTok clip, uploaded in the past three days, has more than 3 million views.
Many redditors who reacted to the video made references to the film Home Alone, presumably drawing similarities from the film after the woman mixes up the number of children she has after being asked by the police.
“Oh no…They left Kevin at the Capital……Home Alone 6. Stream it now on Disney plus,” one redditor commented.
Others also reacted to the blunt and straightforward tone of the police officer restraining one of the women after being questioned by a bystander.
“Gives me a warm feeling,” another wrote.
Others seemingly enjoyed the sense of schadenfreude they got from watching the video, with one redditor commenting that the video was like “chicken soup for the soul.”
The TikToker who uploaded the video published a part two “storytime” video over the weekend, explaining what happened.
According to the TikToker, the two women were arrested for “assaulting an airline worker” and “got out of custody within the next day.” They noted that it wasn’t made entirely clear what happened to the children who accompanied the woman.
