Wednesday’s pro-Trump attack on the U.S. Capitol was destructive and deadly, though it didn’t actually stop Congress from certifying votes for President-elect Joe Biden. It was, as some have noted, a failed coup perhaps more concerned with creating content for social media.
While Twitter documented one angle, things were a little different on TikTok. Claudia Conway, the 16-year-old daughter of Kellyanne Conway, responded to her mother’s tweet during the attack urging “Law and Order. Safety for All” with a “cartoon eye-blinking sound,” silently calling out her hypocrisy after amplifying Trump’s lies for the past four years.
She followed up with a video asking her mother how she felt about the rioters at the Capitol. (Claudia got flak for protesting last summer in D.C. )
Others highlighted the hypocrisy of Black Lives Matter protestors getting tear-gassed and beaten last summer, while these rioters easily entered the Capitol and took selfies.
Others pointed out the missed opportunity, especially after it became a meme, to smack Mitch McConnell with a Twisted Tea.
And while Republicans and right-wing media predictably attempted to blame antifa for something Trump very publicly advocated and incited, there were receipts.
