A recent video shows a Minneapolis police officer throwing a Black man to the ground and kneeling on his back in the same place that former officer Derek Chauvin killed George Floyd in May.

Featured Video

The video, uploaded to YouTube on Dec. 8 by On Site Public Media, shows police gathering at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue on Dec. 4. It’s the same intersection where Chauvin killed Floyd by kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

According to the video description, 12 squad cars and more than 20 officers arrived to apprehend one person for a non-violent offense. The cops then allegedly began waving pepper spray at the crowd and cursing at onlookers.

The video shows an officer grabbing a Black man, whose face is blurred, by his shirt and hurling him to the ground next to a squad car. The video says the officer dislocated the man’s shoulder. The officer then kneels on the Black man’s back and pins his hands behind him as a bystander shouts, “He didn’t do anything!”

The end of the video shows a close-up of the officer wearing a “thin blue line” American Flag badge and tape obscuring his badge number. The video encourages viewers to contact Communities United Against Police Brutality with any information about the officer.

The YouTube video has only earned about 3,400 views, but a clip shared by TikToker @lavishmack three days ago received roughly 275,000 plays.

Several social media users claim to have identified the officer as Kyle Mader of the Minneapolis Police Department.

The Minneapolis Police Department uploaded a Facebook photo of Mader receiving the Lifesaving Award in June 2019. Since Sunday, Facebook users have flooded the post with comments slamming Mader and demanding the police department investigate his actions seen in the video.

“A prime example of the thugs you should be arresting, but won’t. This is why we protest,” Facebook user Nicole Stein commented.

“Curious about this man’s involvement with a violent incident in George Floyd Square–I surely hope the MPD isn’t attempting protection by silence, that won’t work,” user Connor Brunson wrote. “The least that could be done is a statement clarifying the stance of the MPD on such instances–anything less seems damning.”

The Minneapolis Police Department did not immediately respond to the Daily Dot’s request for comment.
