For decades, people have been fascinated by the idea of extraterrestrial life. Or, more specifically, if a vast government conspiracy has been covering up the existence of aliens and UFOs—so much so that last year, over one million people RVSP’ed to an event threatening to storm Area 51. (It did not go as planned.) But now, if a new report out of Israel is to be believed, not only is the United States aware of aliens, but they’ve been in contact with a so-called “Galactic Federation” of aliens for years.
The claims come from former Israeli space security chief Haim Eshed, who served as the head of the program for nearly 30 years and is a three-time recipient of the Israel Security Award. In an interview with the Israeli newspaper, Yediot Aharonot, Eshed explained that both Israel and the United States have both come to an agreement with this Galactic Federation, so that it may research and understand “the fabric of the universe.”
The 87-year-old also claims that the agreement includes a secret underground base on Mars (similar to the plot of the 1996 Tim Burton film, Mars Attacks!), which houses American and alien representatives. And what’s more, President Donald Trump is allegedly aware of this alliance, which supposedly coincided with his creation of the Space Force.
However, Eshed says that mankind is simply not ready for alien life.
Before Trump could disclose the existence of these aliens, the Galactic Federation reportedly stepped in “to prevent mass hysteria.” According to Eshed, the federation felt humanity needed to “evolve and reach a stage where we will… understand what space and spaceships are.”
If this all sounds a little out there, no pun intended, you’re not alone. “The Galactic Federation story isn’t believable because how could they convince Trump not to say something,” one Twitter user accurately summed up.

As the story began to go viral, people naturally began making Galactic Federation jokes and memes. “The Galactic Federation makes jokes about the Earth like we make jokes about Florida,” quipped activist and writer Charlotte Clymer.
As such, many of the memes focused on exactly why humankind isn’t ready to embrace the reality of extraterrestrials (or, vice versa).
One user floated a theory that many of us already believed even before news of the Galactic Federation broke: Mark Zuckerberg is one of them.
But if nothing else, news of a vast alien-government conspiracy puts a fitting cap on this dumpster fire of a year.
In 2021, we welcome our new alien overlords. Things can’t get worse, anyway, can they?
